Over the last weekend, I was rather busy. Handling hundreds and hundreds of bears and cupcakes is no easy task when u work at home. For me, I’ve picked up cake decorating with fondant about one and a half years ago. It’s interesting, artificial yet pretty to look at, and sucks up alot of your time. Well, just like art, it takes time.
Just imagine, after making a few hundreds of bear bodies, you go to a few more hundred pairs of arms and feet, then some tiny ears, and the muzzle and some blush, then the nose and drawing ’em eyes. My mum was just looking at me making it for a few nights and she calculated, “Wah, for each bear, you need to touch / fix it 10 times.”
It’s true, obviously, it has to be like a production line, make each body part at one shot rather than just completing a bear one at a time.
So, if you’re wondering why fondant cakes are much more expensive, it’s not because of live slaughter, but it’s the time and effort put into each and every piece. TIME, it’s the TIME!!! How much these are priced at, depends on how much you think your time is worth.
On the other hand, I’m glad it was bears that I had to make, not barney or any characters from the land of disney. 😉
These were orange poppyseed cupcakes with vanilla buttercream and of course, bears with different expressions. hhehehe
