TheRetrieverFamily approves Sit & Stay Homemade Pet Food

Ha! I have decided to put a name for my dog’s family (theretrieverfamily – also on IG, follow us!) although I call them troopers. Haha

So you may know, I have 5 Golden Retrievers at home. They are a family by themselves. King Hugo, Queen Summer, Prince Teddy, Princess Hailey and Princess Brownie. It can get confusing at times for you because they all look the same but they are not the same. Haha Yup. It’s quite a party at home sometimes. Anyway, I’ve recently been contacted by Cynthia from Sit & Stay (https://www.facebook.com/sitstaysitstay) to review their homemade pet food. Three women who take their pets’ nutrition seriously have decided to go one step further — by providing catering services to owners who are devoted to their furry companions.

Because I have 5 relatively large dogs at home, a portion of my income goes to feeding them. I’m not kidding when I tell you they consume 50-60kgs of kibbles, probably a dozen or two of canned food, not sure how many kg of lamb / beef / mutton / pork, not sure how many kg of broccoli, carrots, cabbage, and rice per month. Although sometimes I want to give them the best, my wallet doesn’t allow so sometimes I concoct my own homecooked food (that consist of a type of meat + veg) and mix with their kibbles. I can understand why some people feed their dogs leftover food. But I try not too because human food often contain lots of salt and other seasonings which may not be that good for dogs.

I’m happy to see that Sit & Stay cooks up food that even smells and looks delicious from the human point of view. I mean, doesn’t it look like a good comforting stew or what! Sit & Stay have consulted a few vets before coming up with the recipes. All their food are made of 80% human grade chunky-meat and have no preservative and flavour enhancers added. You can check out their fb album here that explains more about the ingredients added into the pet food.

Anyways, when Cynthia contacted me, she told me they had a few variety of meats, so she gave me a few of each of the 4 flavours for my dogs to try; Oink Oinkk (Pork), Lambiekin (Lamb), Chickie Boo (Chicken) and Moo Moo Cow (Beef)

They all came packed in 500g biodegradable paper tubs, frozen and can be served by just thawing it. Basically I take them out from the freezer in the morning before I leave for work, then put it out, then my dad will feed them at about 6pm. By that time, the food would be fully thawed, thus no reheating is needed. Overheating can kill the nutrients in the food.

These are waiting to be thawed and fed. Opening the tub, they seemed to be packed quite tightly and full with lots of chunky meats. I gave some to my neighbours to try. I’m not going to lie, frozen food looks not that appetizing. Haha. But I could still see what was in there, unlike canned dog food which is even more mushed up and gross. Since they were packed at 500gm, I gave 1 tub to each of my dog. The feeding is as per 2-3% of your dog’s weight. My dogs weighed about 27-30kgs, so the oldest one would need about 650gm of food and the prince and princesses would needed more. I added some kibbles with it simply because the 500gm won’t be enough.

SitStay dog food BrownieThey were all so so eager! I mean usually they are also eager and kan cheong like that, but they won’t rushed thru the gates and climb to see what’s on the table. The smell must have beeen too invigorating!

Sit Stay dog food 3It wasn’t easy to capture them dogs eating because they vacuumed everything in just 1 minute. Made sure the bowls are licked clean. Sometimes I call them vacuum cleaners because they seem to be more efficient in sweeping up food in seconds. heh.

Sit Stay dog food SummerBowls, as good as new. Summer is the dog food waste scanner. Whenever there’s any leftover food on any bowls, she would inspect and eat it as well. (uh might as well) But she’s so fat lately T__T

Sit Stay dog food TeddyTeddy is looking if there’s any extra which I hid in the basin ? Hahah Well, I’m pretty sure if I gave them the tubs, they would lick it even cleaner. I often hear people saying their dogs don’t eat well, are not interested in food, take 1 hour to finish their food etc etc.. Oh my goodness I’m so glad my dogs don’t. They are gluttons. (maybe like their mommy hahahahhaha) But also because they eat together, if they do not finish their food, someone else would eat it up leaving none for later. So, they finish their food. everytime.

Overall, I think the food from Sit & Stay are good in quality, natural and preservative free. It is suitable for both cats and dogs. I have zero experience with cats, I thought they eat fish, but seems like the food is quite similar with dogs. I’m glad that I managed to let them doggies try out the food from Sit & Stay, also educating me that there are other nutritional vegetables and meat parts which are also beneficial for dogs.

It is unfortunately over my budget to feed them solely on this and on a daily basis but I guess it’s good to have a healthier choice to go with their kibbles rather than just canned food or leftover food. I wouldn’t say they are too expensive as they don’t skimp on  the ingredients, but just that I have 5 dogs so, not really economical for me. heh.

Who knew dog food could be so gourmet! I have two big dogs and like you, we avoid giving them human leftovers completely because it just does bad things to them.
I wish I could afford meals like this for them too but it is costly when you have big dogs who eat more than half a kilo in a sitting but I have no doubt Sit & Stay’s recipes are wholesome and healthy. They look better than what is served at some restaurants in this town lol

Your doggy family is just gorgeous. I’ve never had a Golden Retriever before but they look so friendly and I hear they’re really clever.
